Talented brother and sister duo play Scottish/Jazz/Latin fusion pieces on fiddle, piano, drums, and bass to commemorate personal events in their lives and other quirky subjects. I liked the more Scottish sounding songs the best. This is a first effort so they bear watching (or listening). No FCC violations detected Recommended tracks: 4, 6, 7, 9 1-Rising (1:59) – intro starts off with pretty treble piano riffs, modulating chords underneath 2-Willard State Park (5:21)- piano with fiddle trading comments, Scottish tinges from fiddle; band and percussion kick in; more layered; a bit circular 3-Scott and Rhonda (5:04) – jazzy beginning with fiddle tune and percussion; fiddle takes over; then piano comes back; a little repetitive *4 – Run to Fly (5:39) – starts with bass chords, then solo fiddle with piano underneath, a little meandering; then picks up and demands more of your attention 5-General Jinjur/Nola Chill (4:01) – lively; more of Scottish-style fiddling with marching rhythm and jazzy overtones *6-HRK: Strength in Recovery (7:45)-- starts off with bass plucked chords and high treble piano; nice texture, midway through segues to hardcore piano and violin jazz with drum underneath; then goes back to quiet bass chords and piano *7- The Diamond (3:42) – traditional sea shanty has vocals as well as fiddle in beginning; long instrumental bridge with jazz overtones; 8- The Sordid Life of Scientists (3:52) – piano noodling leads to violin tune with other instruments *9-Summer Scraps (5:39) – uptempo jazzy piano chords with fiddle tune played over vamp; segues to voices and back to fiddle 10-Setting (1:25) – denouement |
