LATIN JAZZ
Michel Nirenberg is a young saxophonist out of Brazil, now working in the Washington DC area. This debut album is very listenable and enjoyable throughout. The core group is a quartet with guitar, drums, and bass; it’s augmented on some tracks with piano, additional percussion, and another guitar.

All instrumental. No FCC issues.

1 * Fast. Lively and fun. Soprano sax leads an electric bass and drums. (4:37)
2 * Mid tempo. It’s a tango danced by acoustic piano and (I think) clarinet. (5:37)
3 * Very fast first half, then much slower. Tenor saxophone and Latin percussion (3:07)
4 Slow. A pretty ballad on soprano saxophone with a bit of piano accompaniment. (6:18)
5 Mid tempo. A famous Ellington tune turned into an odd-sounding Latin dance. (4:25)
6 ** Fast. A virtuoso solo on soprano saxophone. (2:38)
7 * Mid fast. South American style jazz on tenor sax. Think of Gato Barbieri. (3:23)
8 Slow. A melancholy, tedious ballad. Piano starts, tenor sax joins, then percussion. (7:03)
9 Very fast. A samba but too fast for dancing. There’s a nice electric guitar solo. (3:12)
10 Mid fast. Melody runs around in circles; doesn't really get anywhere. (3:24)
11 Very fast. A retake of track 3 with a wild free-jazz segment in the second half. (3:16)
