Singer-Songwriters. All acoustic instruments, male + female duets, original lyrics nicely home recorded with a few modern touches. Five years in making, “You Are Acres” is The Winterlings (local musicians to the Pacific Northwest) first album. They might be called hippy-dippy. They have medium tempo songs with slowly revealing lyrics that would hold up well to repeated listening. A lovely strummed ukulele or guitar or banjo is at the core of this music. Some soul searching may be going on. On this album all the songs are fully realized pieces and each comes to a distinct conclusion and several of them take some clever twists and turns on the way. There are no slow fades. I wish they’d rock out a bit more, but that’s just me. I could suggest, for a very mellow mood, play “Echo”, “Opening Line”, or “While We Were Sleeping”.
