Album Review

Reviewed 2016-03-31
Deliciously textured, accessible dark wave electronic music from Berlin producer Robert Koch (aka Robot Koch). Many slow, spacey tracks with some fascinating beats and styles. The quote that inspired the album does a great job of describing it:
“I’ve come to think that the universe is a four-dimensional site in which nothing is changing and nothing is moving. The only thing that is moving along the time axis is our consciousness. The past is still there, the future has always been here. Every moment that has existed or will ever exist is all part of this giant hyper-moment of space-time.”

Fav Tracks: 1, 5, 7, 10

1. 5:14 Circles** – textural popping percussion, winding synthesizer, ghostly female vox, tension building until awesome breakbeat drop at 3:45, exhilarating
2. 4:02 Dreams – soulful vocals, dreamy (lol) synths float in the backdrop
3. 3:57 Kalimba – mysterious xylophonic percussion, harsher undertones, feelings of a rainy forest, chopped, ominous female vocals
4. 4:21 Serenade – chimes, spacey, pulsing, layered, textured, really tangible
5. 3:37 Eclipse* – prominent bass line, reverberating intergalactic piano, chopped female vocals
6. 2:49 Spine – crackling, spine tingling synths, slow jam
7. 4:34 Separated* – more clear melodic vocals, accessible, slow build, patient explosion at 1:25, slow build until 2:50, forlorn horns
8. 4:22 Fernwood – distorted male vox, almost dancy beat break at 1:10, haunting spacious textured walls fill the background
9. 5:15 Dark Waves – another great track
10. 5:15 Night Drive* – reverberating, encompassing synth and bass, metallic clatter of synths, and interesting drop at 3:33
11. 3:32 Care – slow, dreamy piano jam
12. 4:47 Clutch – can you feel this? Yeah, I can feel it!
