Morgan Brant Reviewed 2016-04-12 | ||
[synthwave] electronic alternative unsettling vaporwave/synthwave. A full album: partly an art piece, partly pop, partly experimental. A bit industrial, funky, glum. Juxtaposed sounds and lyrics battle casually for attention. Vocal monologues intersperse the well-fitting sad synths and acoustic instruments. Sounds hyperdub. Rec: 2,3,12 RIYL Cooly G, Django Django, Alt-J, Phantogram, Mount Kimbie, FaltyDL, Toro Y Moi 1-(2:02) abstract vocal lines over first ambient darkness then bells 2-*(3:58) trip electronica R&B. Nice low wave. 3-**(4:04) strange pleasant bass-y tune with echoed, retro elements 4-(1:32) peaceful low bells/horns under 80s-scify-movie lyrics 5-*(4:42) a toy assembly line, turns warm and embracing and bubbly 6-(1:51) various vocal clips with a clean sky sheen 7-(4:55) minimal hypnotic electronica with acapella, a bit Alt-J 8-*(4:41) poppy melodic ominous synthpop 9-*(2:33) an arty curious electric string quartet 10-*(3:32) minimal slow r&b electronic winter tune 11-(2:12) opening monologue, then twirling arpeggios 12-*(3:45) funked synth atonalities with vacuous reverbs |
