Currently the most popular Portuguese singer – lovely, husky, emotive voice, with that special lilt and hint of tears, perfectly suited to the national genre of fado, full of saudade, or longing for what you can no longer have; updated and influenced by international pop genres

No FCC's; favorite tracks: 1, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14

*1- 4:44- classic fado – guitar intro w/slow, hypnotic beat – “enchanted Moor” – the enchantment of singing

2- 2:18 – upbeat, fast – danceable fado

3- 3:38-”Forlorness” --upbeat but still wistful

*4- 2:39 -”Day Off” – beat moves right along; “Every day is a struggle;” tender, nice accompaniment

*5 –5:18 – “Lilac Wine” – Nina Simone cover in English – slow, sweetly sung

*6-- 4:39-- from tears to laughter and back – phonetically as well as tonally and texturally interesting

7—2:46 – “I Give Over” – nostalgic sound, including organ tracks

8- 3:12-- faster, less fado and more pop-sounding-- danceable

9—3:58- “Song of Shelter” --more pop love song more than fado, organ

*10- 2:52-- “My Love Has Left for Brasil – nice walking beat; song of a wife abandoned in Europe; surprisingly cheerful

*11- 4:10 –more classic fado – regrets of a lover who gave up too easily – nice guitar work

*12-- 5:20 – “You Have the Eyes of God” – starts off with electric guitar – more pop ballad than fado-- organ weaves in and out

*13-- 3:07 – “I Don't Even Want to Know” – classic fado beat and tune

*14- 4:17 – “I'm a Moor” – she identifies with the survivors of the Moorish era in her country; the organ is still there in the background
