Rio De Janeiro’s Rakta returns in 2016 with a new single, Intenção (roughly translated as Intention) and an extensive United States/Japan Summer tour. For these new recordings, the now trio, aside from effectively utilizing all of their trademark elements - tribal beats, vocals saturated with reverb effects and distortion, and a bass line full of treble and mids, these new tracks are longer in length and have a faster tempo. They seem to be evolving from a darkwave band to a more dub-kraut-goth entity. At least that’s my impression of these new songs and the live set I witnessed last week in SF. Reverb forever.

RIYL: Savages, Public Image Limited, XYX, The Slits and The Cure’s Pornography.

Recommended Tracks: 1, 2, and 3

1. (3:53) *Intenção – Meduim-up tempo track, bass driven. Classic Rakta.
2. (5:55) **A Busca Do Círculo – Upbeat guitar driven track with amazing keyboard riff. Louder and more muscular than previous recordings.
3. (5:46) ***Filhas do Fogo – This recording is not part of the single but was recorded during the same sessions. This track will be part of their upcoming album “III.” Long quiet intro, kind of dub. Bassline starts at 1:13, then track takes off – upbeat tempo. Hypnotic. Heavily influenced by Public Image Limited.
