The Furr are a band from Morgantown, WV “born out our members' united love for a mixture of short, fun, loud rock ditties and improvised dadaist jams.” They were on the a-file not too long ago on an incredible split with Spectral Park. Fans of entropic swirling noise will be so in thrall to this. It was recorded live to 4-track and melts krautrock rhythms, weirdo spoken word, and psychey cosmic ambience into a heady, elevated, intensely surreal experience.
1. (3:09) ** Little Green Men—Springy dazzling guitars, bright and sublime.
2. (3:50) Aeroplanes—Garagey, muffled male vox, driving beat.
3. (2:41) ** AA Mike—Driving, loud, distorted Thee Oh Sees rock.
4. (2:07) Identical Tentacle I—Weirdo male vox that sound like Nick Cave, jangly guitars, elevated.
5. (29:50) **** Human Too—Two layers of gravelly, spoken male vox. Psychey drifting whirls of noise build and cascade, vox swell and fade away, we get to krautrock 101 after ten minutes. Then, vox gets louder over some subtle strummed guitar before inviting in an eerie, bass-driven groove. Hazy ambient sunrise in the last few minutes. Song of the year! The most far-out dadaist jams we can only hear on tapes these days.
6. (2:06) Identical Tentacle II—Very similar to its counterpart. Swinging, carefree in a mildly gloomy way.
7. (10:40) *** Human—Sparse theremin invites a pulsing, feedback-drenched guitar workout. Softer and dreamlike in the second half with the same heartbeat pulse before bringing in tortured male vox into the relentless throes. Adds synths and sounds of birds chirping in the last few minutes and dissolves finally into total chaos.
