Pixies’s Head Carrier is the second album of new material of the current Kim Deal-less period. It has polarized everybody who cares about the band. Some people have dismissed the whole thing altogether, while others have given it a chance and go with the flow. One thing I could tell you is that it is not Indie Cindy. Head Carrier is actually a notable recording. It’s cohesive and ambitious and has great rhythmic acceleration overall. On some tracks, they even sound pissed off (Classic Pixies trademark). The best surprise of the album is the abundant and impressive participation of their latest band member, bass player Paz Lenchantin. She not only continues the legacy of Kim Deal by doing beautiful backing vocals but also sings lead on a couple of tracks that by the way, are some of the best on the album. A stack of new recordings that will fit well with the classic catalog.
