Your Imaginary Friend Reviewed 2016-10-07 | ||
Fans of all things beautiful ugly: heavy classical tinged metallic darkness. A supergroup of sorts, led by layered violin/strings, heavy fuzz bass and sonic drums when these aren't folk tinged quiet somber studies. Fans of Swans, early 4AD artists. I hesitate to say Goth, rather more like progenitors like Current 93 evolved into metal. Most songs start quiet then explode, vocals if any are quiet spoken (mostly). Most songs blend together and are long. More compositions than songs. Epic. 1)* (7:12) droning organ, strummed guitar, minimal repetitious lyrics, very Swans, blends into next 2)* (7:15) comes out of previous, slow plod, dark with layered somber strings and fuzz bass, builds mightily 3)* (6:21) very mellow until midway launches into a great head nodding rock beat, heavy fuzz bass 4) (6:56) very quiet w piano and guitar under mournful violin melodies, sure enough midway it explodes into heaviness 5)* (6:33) vocals return, more spoken really, over lush violins, mellow overall - is really just an intro to the next... 6)* (6:19) ...perfect heavy nodding rock, with desperate screamed vocals 7)* (1:32) brief mellow outtro to previous. |
