Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2016-11-02
Avante downtown experimental jazz that incorporates world tones, upright bass drums with a pump organ, wood winds, but mostly features the dominant fem vocs of Amirtha Kidambi who if I am not mistaken is free associating vocals in a made up language (?) repeating a few "words" like a mantra. For fans of William Parker, Toyondai Braxton.

1) (13:19) slow pump organ, cymbals w plaintive vocs, midway band appears with slow mindful hypnotic beat and feel, wood winds, shifts to a straighter beat toward end 2) (20:31) cool beat, free association vocalizations, midway goes free jazzy spastic, ends somber organ. 3) (12:42) begins solo vocs quiet then goes full on free jazz improv, drops out quiet midway with excellent solo bass and builds up again 4) (17:31) organ solo to start again then builds into a big jam, ends in a barrage of insanity, cold with 20 seconds dead air at end.
