Reviewed by: Kim Walter Oct 2016 Label: Rural Rhythm Records Claybank is four religious guys, a mandolin, a banjo, a guitar, a bass, four voices and some serious bluegrass. They play both upbeat traditional banjo dominant bluegrass and slower ballads, more like folk music with a religious rather than political tone. The two lead vocalists ( Zack and Jacob, 16 and 17 respectively!!) alternate with the singing duties, with band mates Gary and Tyler harmonizing as well, and all these voices give the songs a surprising variety. The album both begins and ends on a strong bluegrass note, giving a hint as to their genesis. Traditional bluegrass: 1,5,12. My faves: 2, 7, 9. Claybank- “Playing Hard To Forget” 1. 2:53 - clear lyrics, med/fast tempo 2. 3:00 – variation in tune, interesting theme, slow 3. 2:47 – smooth vocal medley, slow 4. 2:45 – banjo dominant with real country feel, med 5. 3:12 – Traditional bluegrass sound with strong vocals, med 6. 3:26 – reminds me of a mountain folk spiritual, slow 7. 2:49 - ** Most unique song on album, also band’s namesake, med 8. 3:26 – Clear, strong vocals with excellent musical accompaniment, slow 9. 3:38 – Strong banjo, only instrumental on album 10. 3:00 – spiritual song, med 11. 3:15 – vocal harmonies dominate this lament, slow 12. 1:59 – strong classic bluegrass- fast, furious and short | ||
