Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2016-11-16
Legendary late 70's early 80's SF band release brand new album, first in decades. Their mark of wise cynical what me worry is all over this, just as good as it ever was. Heavy dissonance is belied by an indie rock if not prog sentiment. Several instrumentals included, but all vocals are understated, almost Dinosaur Jr, and the lyrics scathingly wise. For fans of Golden Palominos, God Bullies, Buttholes too even. One of my fave bands, a tape of their first two records (see our library) got me through college 30 years ago.

1)* (2:30) catchy beat, accessible feel 2) (3:30) slower slightly dark feel, instrumental 3) (4:30) cover of Goldfinger theme, instrumental. 4)* (2:54) silly feel pop, "uh oh, that stuff happens" 5)* (2:33) "when you were born", a run down of pop culture, recent history. 6) (3:55) cool instrumental, pretty really 7)* (3:28) run down on origins and silliness of Berkeley 8) (2:54) life is a joke, "it's so funny I forgot to laugh" 9) (2:54) hilarious cover of Muzak Montivani classic. 10) (3:11) upbeat galloping, creepy accounting of near death experience 11) (3:50) marching instrumental
