Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2016-11-17
Archival recordings of seminal NYC No Wave band from mid late 70's. Decent if low fi quality captures them well, the spirit, unabashed dissonance. Tribal disjunct anti-vocals, if you want to know what "no Wave" (or even post punk) is check this out. Listen closely to the complete disregard for standard guitar tunings, playing, and you'll understand where Sonic Youth came from (and from them all of modern "indie rock"). See also DNA, James Chance, Lydia Lunch. This movement was captured well by Byrne and Eno when they released the classic compilation "No New York" with above bands and more (check it out, we have a vinyl copy).

1) (3:45) driving cool. 2)* (2:14) squealing upbeat- if they have a "hit" this is it, familiar from No New York 3) (3:16) tribal almost instrumental cuz vocs are so low 4)* (2:10) slower sparser darker 5)* (3:00) DNA comes to mind in the sparse disjunct bursts 6) (1:49) noisy balm 7) (3:03) heavy plodding tribal noise rock 8) (3:43) driving and weird, ends with ~1min left then crowd noise 9) (3:51) good weird driving stuff 10) (3:43) pounding strange. Play 9-10 together. 11) FCC from crowd in intro sadly, great slow song, cue after crowd? Good 40 seconds crowd applause at end
