Experimental rock. Australian multi-instrumentalist Oren Ambarchi collaborated with an impressive bunch of avant-garde musicians including Jim O’Rourke, Crys Cole, Keith Fullerton Whitman, Mark Fell, and Ricardo Villalobos on this dense journey through space. Over the course of his career he’s experimented with free jazz, drone metal, and krautrock, and this release in particular occupies a sublime interlying space between jazz, rock, and electronic minimalism.

1. (21:50) *** Hubris, Pt. 1—Fluid, mesmerizing krautrock jam. Locks into an intense groove that’s not broken until the last minute. Muted guitars and ringing, metallic harmonics. Like Nisennenmondai crossed with Steve Reich.
2. (1:55) Hubris, Pt. 2—Simple, guitar only interlude.
3. (16:35) ** Hubris, Pt. 3—Noisy, dissonant guitars and electronics, still retains a steady percussive pulse.
