The Shacks - The Shacks EP
Twee indie pop with ultra breathy female vocals over low fi. The gentle melodies and chilling, whispery vocals give the music a dreamy, voyeuristic sound. The Shacks are a self-proclaimed rock band, but not in the conventional way. Their music sounds honest, refreshing, easy to sway to, and is good for a relaxing, easy-going night. FCC clean. Especially like 1, 4, 7, 8.
Songs
1. (3:23) **Strange Effect: mellow, melancholic, almost mysterious vocals with an upbeat undertone. Smooth saxophone instrumental towards the end.
2. (2:59) Left It With The Moon: slow and soothing melody, with upbeat background music. Female background vocals “oohing.” Piano, organs.
3. (3:43) Orchids: dramatic beginning. Slow saxophone instrumental towards the middle. Switches to more upbeat maracas/almost techno-sounding instruments halfway through.
4. (3:28) **Audrey Hepburn: guitar, piano, drums. Alternates quite abruptly between slow/soothing and faster/“happier” melodies.
5. (3:01) Tidal Waves: soft melody w/ guitar, then changes to louder, more upbeat drums almost halfway through. Ends with sounds of tidal waves.
6. (2:33) Rain: techno/retro-sounding, strong drums/bass (esp in beginning). Interesting cowbell beat in the last 10 seconds.
7. (3:10) **Hands in Your Pockets: happy, upbeat instrumental melody. Last minute is purely instrumental that eventually fades out.
8. (3:56) **No Surprise: 40-second instrumental intro (guitar, drums). Heavy/loud background music. Chorus contains male and female voices.
9. (3:27) Strange Boy: dramatic, heavy, loud background music (guitar, drums). Dark melody.
