This Is Gap Dream is the third album by Fullerton, California’s prolific Gabriel Fulvimar, better known as Gap Dream. 1970s glam rock a la Lou Reed meets now L.A. low-fi kraut-pop. Like entering Rodney Bingenheimer's English Disco and seeing Faust do Velvet Underground covers using cheap laptops. California all the way. RIYL: Jack Name, White Fence, Judas el Desgraciado, Part Time and Lou Reed. FCC WARNING: 3 Recommended Tracks: 1, 2, 3 (FCC), 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11 1. (2:59) *Greater Find – Instrumental electro-pop. Jingles music meets 1970s AM radio memories. 2. (3:12) ***Rock And Roll – 21st century kraut-pop. Old machines, new visions. Must be a hit. 3. (3:35) **College Music – FCC (Shitlot). 1970s influenced rocker. Bowie and Neil Young splitting the bill. 4. (3:18) 24 Hour Token – Low-fi pop with a recognizable melody – even if I can remember where it’s from. 5. (1:47) *Party Foul – Short rocker with a tasteful guitar riff. 6. (2:43) *Jacky – 1960s pop meets low-fi baroque pop. Immediate approach. 7. (2:21) *153 – Glam rocker with Lou Reed and T. Rex in mind. Dig. 8. (1:49) Golden Shoes – Early 1990s inspired college radio recording. Mellow guitar driven tune. Trade the rough. 9. (3:15) ***Modern Rhythms – L.A. kraut-pop gem. Cheap software and used drum machines. Inspired. 10. (4:19) *Judy Let Me Roam – Instrumental prog rock piece. The guitar solo makes me think of the Repo Man soundtrack too. 11. (3:28) **Shy Boy – Slow tempo. Drum machine beat. Melancholic. Reminds me of Jack Name. 12. (2:45) A Stranger To Myself – Rock ballad a la Lou Reed – Berlin period. |
