Here Come The Argonauts! is the debut album by Tokyo, Japan’s The Argonauts. The instrumental quartet merges two sounds, psychedelic surf music and jazz-funk a la Herbie Hancock. Long tracks with plenty of guitar and synthesizer solos. Epic.
RIYL: Herbie Hancock, Black Market Jam, The Mermen, Takeshi Terauchi & His Blue Jeans and Daigo & the Midnight Marauders.
NO WORDS, NO FCC’s.
Recommended Tracks: 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9
1. (4:58) **Creepy Crawlies – Interstellar psych rock surfer. Slow/fast intensity. Great trip.
2. (4:09) *Let's Dance Just Like We Did – Garage rocker. Retro surf sounds. Cool take.
3. (4:48) *The Essence – Cosmic reggae piece driven by a long synthesizer riff/solo.
4. (4:55) *Ain't Nothing New – Jazz-funk a la Herbie Hancock. Sometimes bluesy. Decent.
5. (5:33) Young Man Dies In The Holy Valley – 1990s college radio guitar rock meets retro prog rock meets acid jazz. Music for scenic driving.
6. (5:24) Argo Dub – Dub reggae piece. Some tasteful guitar/synth experimentation throughout the song. Trippy.
7. (3:36) Burning Poppies – Very 1970s instrumental rock composition. Think Herbie Hancock jazz rock pieces.
8. (4:59) *Jack And The Beanstalk – Classic psychedelic rock here. Totally old school. Two minutes guitar solo.
9. (6:33) **One For The Road – Accelerated psych rock piece with hints of surf and jazz-funk. Long cosmic jam.
