AVANT-GARDE JAZZ

Danish drummer & composer debuts with an EP featuring five short, original works. Besides Lindholm’s drums, instruments are trumpet (with electronic effects), bass, and various keys (except #5). All tracks are slow, ethereal, and somewhat cold emotionally.

All instrumental. No FCC issues.

1 * Slow. Elec bass starts; breathy trumpet follows. Sparse. Piano joins midway. Gains tempo slightly; fills out; almost manages to be pretty. Ends with opening bass line. (4:13)
2 Very slow. Anxious trumpet leads; occasional harmonium; spare bass & drums. (4:48)
3 Very slow. Melancholy melody on trumpet. Min drums. (2:38)
4 * Very slow to start. Ominous, sci-fi scary on keys & bass. Trumpet ranges from strained to pleasant. Gains tempo. Strange and intriguing. (5:16)
5 ** Electronic effects open; shimmering cymbals & elec bass emerge. At 1:30 trumpet takes over and leads a comparatively melodic piece, though still avant-garde. (4:09)
