STRAIGHT FORWARD JAZZ COMBO

Yet another fine release produced by Cory Weeds on his Cellar Live label. This ensemble is led by a young bass player and composer, Luke Sellick. Instruments (on various tracks) include tenor and alto saxes, trumpet, piano, guitar, drums. Sellick wrote all nine tracks.
No FCC issues.

1 Slow. Simple trumpet fanfare with rolling tom-toms and piano. (1:01)
2 * Mid-fast. Toe tapper lead by trumpet. Bright & cheery. Some good solos. (6:45)
3 Mid-slow. Easy going melody on trumpet & alto. Bass solo. Light guitar & piano. (4:49)
4 Very slow. Sad theme on tenor sax, not particularly pretty. Improv piano bridge. (6:02)
5 ** Mid-tempo. Trumpet & alto trade an attractive theme; strong elec guitar lead at one point; then spirited ensemble playing gains in tempo & power. Quite good. (7:03)
6 * Mid-slow. Bluesy theme on tenor sax. Long piano improve; then a bass solo. Best of the slow tunes. (4:47)
7 Slow. Elec guitar lead w gentle piano, bass, drums. Then trumpet & alto. Sleepy. (4:00)
8 ** Mid-fast. Peppy, snappy, happy. The lead goes elec guitar, piano, bass. (4:52)
9 Mid-slow. Pleasant melody on trumpet, alto, guitar. A bit too smooth for my taste. (5:05)
