Animal Collective’s newest EP is a spirited companion piece to last year’s Painting With. Containing tracks from that album’s recording sessions, it mostly recycles tropes and doesn’t add anything totally new to the picture. But it’s hella fun and a solid pop record. Give it a listen!

1. (3:14) *** Kinda Bonkers—FCC: f***. Tribal drumming, background chants. Classic AnCo vox. Avey Tare compares his life to French toast.
2. (3:16) ** Peacemaker—Subdued, stripped down. Punchy drums, echoey bass guitar, metallic chime. Call-and-response vox between Panda Bear and Avey Tare.
3. (2:48) * Goalkeeper—Bouncy hyper-arpeggiated synths. Yelps and generally unintelligible vox.
4. (4:07) ** Jimmy Mack—Cover of a track by Martha & the Vandellas. Bell tones, strong bass. Ecstatic, out-of-breath, totally comical.
