Your Imaginary Friend Reviewed 2017-05-10 | ||
Had early Swans been a metal band this is what they'd have sounded like. Heavy doomy crushing with Cookie Monster vocs. Huge HUGE sound. Bigly. Epic long songs, primo noise based guitar and gigantic bass, drums. My ears hurt even listening to this at low volume. Napalm Death meets Swans with Don Caballero and The Enablers on board. 1)* (9:57) absolutely brutal noise onslaught intro, then crushing doom ensues, 3 min in it becomes minimal guitar, then it becomes more standard doom grindcore, Cookie Monster vocs appear, excellent noise outtro 2)* (10:35) halting pounding, crushing, epic, midway there's a FALSE ENDING, track comes back quietly, builds slowly finally exploding into rip roaring onslaught 3) (11:00) a bit more mellow with chordal guitar, hypnotic repetition before vocs and heaviness appear, about 6min in ramps up 4) (17:26) killer huge Swans dirge, goes thru moods picking up rip roaring at times. 5) (9:49) more big dissonant rock, again with false ending midway. |
