Jad Fair’s band’s latest release (! – from earlier this year). Irreverent vocal delivery, barely melodic. King Missile comes to mind but also every “authentic” indie rock/punk band that has ever existed. Going back to the late 70’s, Fair was one of the first “on your sleeve” artists who cared less for tuning his guitar or sweeping poetic lyrics for just matter of fact songs delivered matter of factly, being a stalwart of the 80’s underground revolution. It could be argued that the entire genre of low-fi indie rock was spawned by Jad Fair. Crazies like Daniel Johnston also took the reins and folks like Jonathon Richman convergently evolved with boyish aw shucks deliveries. Fair’s subjects and tone however are anything but innocent. All clean, no FCCs. Great stuff.
1) (2:42) simple good power pop, hooky 2) (2:47) good dark rock with spoken delivered vocs, irreverent feel 3)* (2:35) cool catchy beat 4) (2:57) more of a mid paced rockin head nodder 5) (3:31) bouncy rockin rockabilly feel 6) (2:38) swingy brushed drum beat, different synth and guit tones. 7)* (4:02) halfwit stupid hippie zombies, mellow rock but great lyrics 8) (3:05) poppy and hooky jangly, hit quality. 9) (3:03) pleasant rock. 10) (2:25) slight ska feel and bounce pop backbeat, organ 11) (3:03) upbeat love song 12) (4:13) ballady almost, vague violin in bridge. 13)* (5:55) lots of positive affirmations that are hard to take seriously, pleasant music
