Cults made their name in black and white. A pair of film school dropouts who burst onto the New York scene with a perfect single and a darkly retro sound, the band’ s first two albums play like noirish documentaries on a lost girl group. Four years after Static, Cults returns with Offering, an exciting collection of songs bursting with heart, confidence, shimmering melody and buzzing life. The time off has given the band new energy and new ideas–Cults are working in Technicolor now.

FCC: Clean

Like: Tennis, Chvrchs, Best coast, craft spells.

Play: 1, 2, 5, 9.

1.Offering (4:13) - Huge pop number with stomping drums that drive Follin’s vocals.
2.I Took Your Picture (3:19) - Dreamy breaks to slick riffs, the track is endlessly catchy.
3.With My Eyes Closed (3:43) - Retro-pop and even Beach Boys-like sense of piano pop.
4.Recovery (4:12) - Loud brass and strong drum and synth lines.
5.Right Words (3:07) - Straightforward cheesy indie pop.
6.Good Religion (4:03) - Ethereal tones and slow moving writing but it really builds a lot of emotion in the process.
7.Natural State (3:48) - Slow guitar clangs, letting very simple song writing.
8.Nothing Is Written (3:36) - Bouncing vocals up and down, a lot of sound detail.
9.Talk in Circles (3:54) - Dynamic explosion of a chorus gniting a dark and pensive verse.
10.Clear From Far Away (3:45) - Piano lines dance around the verses as they shift between grooves and loud pop.
11.Gilded Lily (3:32) Futuristic synths takes it out on one of the most pained and beautiful hooks.
