Amazing one-of-a-kind album. Hawaiian musician Daniel Ho went to Inner Mongolia and found some astonishing players whom he infused with his own multi-faceted musicality; reminiscent of the Kurdish “Hawniyaz” another East-West fusion album of high virtuosity and great spirit. No FCC's; Favorite tracks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8,9, 10 ,11, 13 **1—Between the Sky and Prairie –3:35 -- sweet and soulful instrumental of ukulele with violin and some human voice **2 – Daur Love Song –3:22 – rhythmic love song – vocals, jaw harp, bird calls – captivating! *3- Gray Sparrow's Heartache – 4:40– lovely and delicate vocals with Ho's piano underneath *4—Rock Blossoms –2:48 – uptempo Barga folksong with local instruments *5—Singing Magpie –1:51 – amazing instrumentation and vocals imitate magpie calls 6 –Jiang Mu Reverie –4:40—traditional throat singing with piano and native instruments *7 –Manchurian Lullaby Melody—3:29 – lovely vocal with Ho's six string ukulele and local folk instruments *8 –Golden Sunlight –3:30-- another gorgeous vocal with piano *9 –Yaohur –2:32 – uptempo dance song with throat singing and native instruments *10 –The Tragedy at Uhert Mountain and Huiteng Lake –2:10 – powerful *11- Praise for Galloping Horses –3:14-- heavy duty throat singing with Daniel playing Hawaiian gourd percussion; galloping rhythm 12—Mongolian Drinking Song –2:23-- accompanied by Ho's ukulele 13 – Genghis Khan Eulogy – 6:37 – everyone chimes in for this one where they pull out all the stops for their great warrior (and bain of the Western world) |
