Multi-instrumentalist, polyglot, bandleader and composer Magda Giannikou shows off her many facets in this album about facing your fears; cheerful and energetic with cool beats and textures, not to mention lingual dexterity and vocal range as well as an impressive string orchestra that includes Maeve Gilchrist playing lever harp No discernible FCC's; Favorite tracks: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 13 1- Tam Tam – 3:36 – uptempo French – “If you want I'll play my tambour” 2- Coracao –3:26 – uptempo Portuguese 3-Ase Me Na Bo – 1:19- overture—slower instrumental with mournful violins *4—Ase Me Na Bo –4:22 – picks up speed with hammered dulcimer; sung in Greek; catchy, a little hypnotic *5 -Muchacha – 3:43 – softer, breathier Spanish with nice triads underneath; a little dreamy *6- Vem Morena – 2:54- punchy Brazilian Portuguese accompanied by equally punched up orchestration; really moves *7 – Chanson Lev – 4:25- sweet little French number – “Lev, Lev – doff your hat” *8-- Reine de Bois –3:45 – “Queen of the Woods” – another song in French with airy accompaniment 9-Le Tigre Malin –1:33 -narration in English introduces the story of three women whose voice, dreams, and dreams are stolen by the tiger 10- Le Tigre Malin-3:38-- the story of how the three women fight back, in French 11- Le Tigre Malin-reprise-:41—instrumental ending 12-Venin –3:40- the rocky path of love in French *13-Thiamandi -4:49- anthem-like song in Greek | ||
