INDIE ROCK John Wesley Coleman III is lead singer of the Austin-based band, The Golden Boys. This solo set of 10 songs is sorta, but not too much, country-rock, folk-rock, singer-songwriter. There’s a nice variety of styles and themes. The singing is similar to Jeff Tweedy perhaps. I’ll go ahead and say, RIYL Wilco. FCC violation in #1 1 (FCC: “motherfucker”) ** Mid-fast. Hard driving, hard rocker. (3:30) 2 * Mid-tempo. Hangover morning. Good country-rock tune. (3:31) 3 * Mid-fast. Crunchy guitar chords. Equal parts angry and joyous. (2:49) 4 Mid-slow. Easy swaying folk-rock. Drug references. Wilco sound-alike. (2:56) 5 Slow. Acoustic folk ballad to start. Talk-singing. Shifts gears when band joins. (3:47) 6 Mid-fast. Upbeat & twangy country-rock.
