38th studio album from Neil Young (God?) .. Melancholy folk songs that were originally written in the 1970s and have been featured on previous records in various forms. Now, they’re compiled here with a few previously unreleased tracks. Excellent lyrics rich in allegory that make you wonder what bestirs this man’s mind. Sad, strange, and beautiful.

Favorites: ALL

1. (3:27) * Pocahontas—Pining, sad love song, rustic glow
2. (3:23) ** Powderfinger—More uplifting, comforting, classic track
3. (2:52) * Captain Kennedy—Searching, strained, w/ soft fingerpicked guitar
4. (2:38) ** Hawaii—Somber, fuller sound, recalls After the Gold Rush. Previously unreleased track
5. (3:40) * Give Me Strength—Thick strumming, depressing lyrics of lost love, music for drinking alone and crying. Previously unreleased track
6. (1:50) * Ride My Llama—Lonesome nostalgia, bit more country twang, too short
7. (4:37) ** Hitchhiker—Insistent guitar, upbeat angry loneliness just barely holding on, classic Neil
8. (4:19) ** Campaigner—Softer acoustic, world-sick, “even Richard Nixon’s got soul”
9. (3:17) * Human Highway—Sad guitar then some of that timeless harmonica
10. (3:37) ** The Old Country Waltz—Brief moment of Neil speaking, lo-fi piano and earnest vox, harmonica
