Review: The music is like a soundtrack for a movie you make up in your mind. An amazing album, and even more impressive in that no synthesizers were used, and it is entirely composed by samples found on old records, live instruments and field recordings.
If You Like: Beaver & Krause, early Pink Floyd, Eno, Penderecki
Track Review (favorites denoted by *):
*1/ Inland (6:49) – field recording including splashing water morphs into synth-like jam with birds calling to one another> gorgeous violin & cello overlay> slow fade
*2/ Post Tenebras (6:26) – abrasive strings open> slow piano joins> slow jam creates pastoral vibe interlocking recorders & synth-like sounds> rumbling thunder threatens> rain starts> fade
3/ Une Touche de Pluie (7:36) – babbling brook starts> slow drone comes in waves and morphs into buzzing like a swarm of insects> percussion solo> cello solo punctuated by gong-like bells> fade on cymbals
*4/ Ghostly Ballet (8:47) – heavy cymbals open morphing into distorted electronic sounding dissonance like a crash> slow orchestral/synth-like jam with recorders & cello, like a soundtrack to dawn breaking with birds singing> builds in volume & intensity then mellows, with other animals waking & running around> beautiful soaring interplay sound collage> fade
*5/ Plume (10:02) – sound like hooves on rocks morphs into sonic ambient multi-toned drone with a throbbing undertow like cruising through the universe> slows to long fade with recorders & piano
6/ 3RTSor(6:25) – mellow drone with repetitive riff opens> beautiful sonic interplay with recorders like cruising through the countryside> waves of sound> fade
7/ Unsolved (5:44) – piano chord> long drawn out horn-like notes> somewhate funereal> xylophones kick in> slow fade
*8/ Une Si Delecate Tempete (12:43) – like the different phases of the day: low drone> quick build in volume, like the sun rising, morphs into higher pitched drone with subtle interplay, like the sun heading to noon & afternoon, morphs into lower drone with interplay as night comes on, then soars out into the universe
