Vulfpeck – Mr Finish Line Minimalist funk/soul/R&B RIYL: Stuff, Lettuce, Muscle Shoals, MFSB, Lake Street Dive, Mocky, Joey Dosik, Booker T & the M.G.’s Summary: A cult-favorite, Vulfpeck is an Ann Arbor-rooted funk foursome working in the tradition of some of the great session groups. While they are known for minimalist funk and their wry, self-aware sense of humor (plus legendary bass player Joe Dart), their third LP features a lot more guest vocalists and R&B/soul influence. Fun, nothing too heavy, and a lot of memorable licks. Recommended Tracks: 2,6,9 No FCCs detected – tracks 4, 6, and 8 are instrumental 1. Birds of a Feather, We Rock Together (feat. Antwaun Stanley) (04:45) [sudden stop] Soulful, tender vocals with light funk instrumentation – sweet and dreamy *2. Baby I Don’t Know Oh Oh (feat. Charles Jones) (3:28) [sudden stop] Absurdly good production – deliberate and powerful, but still very emotive + sax 3. Mr. Finish Line (feat. Christine Hucal & Theo Katzman) (3:13) [sudden stop + studio talk] Breezy, laid-back - great rhythm guitar. Lighthearted, with nonsense lyrics and some ad-libbing. 4. Tee Time (2:49) [sudden stop + studio talk] An homage to Richard Tee – electric piano with delay, upbeat and driving 5. Running Away (feat. Joey Dosik, David T. Walker & James Gadson) (4:32) [moderate stop] Like stepping into the past – R&B crooning and pillowy percussion with some jazz influence *6. Hero Town (feat. Michael Bland) (3:35) [sudden stop] Duo sax/synth lead – funkiest track of the album, great drum fill 7. Business Casual (feat. Coco O.) (3:03) [quick fadeout] Poppy and bubbly – more silly lyrics 8. Vulf Pack (2:37) [sudden stop] Straight up minimalist funk with a great call and response – where the bass really shines *9. Grandma (feat. Antwaun Stanley, David T. Walker & James Gadson) (5:05) [long fadeout] Big gospel influence, nostalgic and downtempo 10. Captain Hook (feat.
