Moka Only - Concert For One [reviewed by J-Simma] FCCs: the whole album except 9, 14, RIYL: Dilla, Madlib, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, A Tribe Called Quest. A solid project, really easy to listen and vibe out to. Chill, lo-fi relaxing beats and mellow bars, reminiscent of golden-age Dilla and ATCQ’s Low End Theory. Favorite Tracks: 2, 3, 7, 10, 12, 13, 16, 18, 20 1) Concert Intro (00:44) - Light, bright, vintage feeling instrumental intro 2) **Hi (3:25) - Smooth, melodic guitar samples, uptempo proper intro track 3) **UnU (2:48) - Groovy beat and ocean samples, happy feel and introspective lyrics 4) Featuring Drake (2:50) - Smooth really happy beat, slightly lo-fi/gritty feel 5) Demoland (00:23) Dark, gritty transitioning track 6) Replay (2:36) - Groovy, with a darker feel, emphasized vocals 7) **Just Some Vibes (feat. Dank) (2:49) - Mellow bars, nice rhythmic sample and jazzy riffs throughout 8) Are You Happy Now (2:31) - A little brighter and more uptempo than the other tracks, boom bap drum feel 9) Snapshot (1:22) - Reverse bass beat in background gives a sporadic/obtuse vibe 10) **Right There (2:36)) - Rhyme cadence and mellow jazz feel like Tribe Called Quest 11) Egg Interlude (00:35) - Downtempo, vintage, happy interlude ** 12) Not A Thing (2:45) - Bongo percussion, nice bounce groove, really feels like some good Tribe *13) I May (3:14) - Bright jazz sample w/ascending/descending bassline, mid-tempo, 14) Green Bridge Interlude (00:12) - light xylophone beat w/sound of footsteps ** 15) Real Simple Real Mellow (2:36) - sounds like the name, light drums highlight vocals more ** 16) Old Quirks Old Places (2:21) - Feels like Paris, Tokyo by Lupe Fiasco, classic jazz-hop 17) Real Late (00:52) - Boom bap drums with interesting arpeggio **18) Crinkle Jazz (00:53) - Great Jazz sample and swingin feel 19) The Stars (2:52) - nice upright bass(line), breezy vocals in between verses and towards end **20) What Zone Now (2:56) - A little more uptempo, spacey bassline, solid vocal layering in chorus | ||
