Makru started in SF's Mission when Raul Vargas from Madrid met up with Vinicio Penate and expanded to include eight people from seven countries (including one non-Spanish speaker from Turkey); high quality instrumentation, vocal quality, lyrical; rhythmic; eminently listenable NO FCC's; Favorite tracks: 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 *1- Nomadas Opcion – 3:30 – reggae/mariachi flavored song about coming and going; forceful singer with cool sound effects and great horns *2 – Contar-- 3:55 – Middle Eastern flavored intro segues to Castilian spoken lyrics and pretty string background segues; chorus harmony; pretty! 3-- Cloud – 4:04 – English lyrics to reggae style beat *4 – Palabras –3:39 – written on a laidback day in a Costa Rican rain forest **5 –Tu Mission –4:00-- more purely Spanish sounding with pretty harmony, guitar, and hand clapping; low key but intense with more than a touch of flamenco 6 –Where You Wanna Be – 3:04 --”Embrace the world/And fight until you are gone” English lyrics; anthem for today's world *7 –Palabras (extended version) – 5:12 – rainforest sound effects added to the song Palabras | ||
