Bootyzou, Big Buzz Label: Reviewed by: Kim Walter, Aug 2018 This has to be one of the weirdest albums I’ve reviewed in a while. That being said, the music itself is a blues tinged rock and roll that is solid rockin’ good fun, but after a while, it’s a bit much. And here’s why: he is SUCH a total character and so totally in your face about his pro cannabis stance.The warlock of weed. The sultan of sensimilla. The emperor of indica..The list goes on and on, so much that I, even with my ingrained California cannabis culture, find song after song about marijuana, well, boring . That being said, the underlying music is true and honest and filled with a great deal of variety. It can be a lot of fun- in small doses.I just realized what the problem was: #14 was SO bad, that it ruined the next three songs for me. I like the bluesy album closer (18). Best for me: 3, 6,10, **11, 18 2:05 Spoken word that is all about Bootyzou’s evolution - good intro to ANY track 5:18 - Med - Americana rock/blues/country/swamp music 3:18 - med - swing, great tune, I think it’s the theme song for a netflix comedy 6:42 - med - very blues rock, catchy song about moonshine, harmonica 4:39 - med - I believe the name “Thrillbilly Romp” says it all 4:35- med- bong hit, cover of Black Sabbath’s Sweet Leaf - reggae/ska beat with metal!! 3:54- med - kind of a country/bluesy song with bluegrass hints, or “50’s prison music” 2:38- med/fast - bluegrass tune about not smoking crack 2:53- med/fast - bluegrass, alternating vocals, then rollicking tune about harvest time 3:08 - med - classic country vibe 4:11 - med - almost an island vibe, nice, reminds me of Tom Jones, who totally rocks 4:43- med - humorous country rock about smoking after death 3:06- med/fast - traditional bluegrass about terrorism 3:50- med - what the heck is this? Bad 70’s rock yech 3:32- med/fast - kinda a early metal rock sound… I’m losing interest 3:43- med- similar island electric guitar with offensive lyrics (Get up off that fat ass) 4:40- med- almost identical sound to # 16, much better lyrics 8:15- slow/med - Title track,with serious blues influence | ||
