INDIE FOLK-ROCK
The Barr Brothers are Brad (songwriter, guitar, lead singer) and Andrew (drums), plus a friend, Sarah Pagé, on classical harp. The performances here are all good, quite varied, interesting, with rich overlapped textures. A very good album all the way through.
No FCC issues.
1 * Slow. Gentle ballad w throbbing perc. The group Lucius sings a dramatic bridge. (5:34)
2 Mid-tempo. Shimmering & dreamy. Instruments dominate the voice. (4:38)
3 ** Mid-tempo. Paul Simon-esque folk song with a pretty melody, good fingerstyle guitar, and synth'd horns. (3:58)
4 * Mid-tempo. Twangy, nicely retro, lo-fi. Mult guitars plus organ, harmonica. (4:12)
5 Fast, driving. Bouncy & danceable like 80s New Wave. (4:34)
6 Mid-slow. Lazy feel like a stoned lethargy. Gradual crescendo. (6:22)
7 *** Mid-fast. A gem of a lite-rock/pop song, exuberant & fun, like Fleetwood Mac at their apex (in the best sense). Superb instrumentation. (5:28)
8 * Mid-fast. A loud, strong guitar & drums blues rocker (think Black Keys). (4:22)
9 ** Mid-fast. Big instrumental waves try to wash over the good vocal. Powerful. (4:14)
10 Mid-tempo. Short coda to track #9. More ethereal. (1:48)
11 ** Slow. Gorgeous little symphony; somber mood. Female 2nd vox is stunning. (5:48)
