Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend

New cassette release: Classic old school noise: progenitors of the genre from 1981-83 using early synths and tape loops, effects, living room layering experiments. This duo were part of the early noise movement (see also SPK, Esplendor Geometrio, early Throbbing Gristle). This is a limited release cassette, side A of which contains a recently “unearthed” never before released track, side A of a TDK C-60. “…an alcohol fueled midnight experiment, mixing cigarettes, booze and synthesizers into some kind of industrial strength muck. Feeding my Korg MS20 synth into Lons’ harmonizer and Korg Stage Echo machine…”. Walls of sound that we called “Industrial” or “Industrial Noise” back in the day before bands like NIN and Skinny Puppy coopted the genre moniker. Side B of the cassette (tracks 2-7) contain previously unreleased material, raw tracks of previous stuff and snips of a couple classics. See also Controlled Bleeding.

1)* (29:12) Unearthed – see above 2) (3:34) treated bells, mostly tinkly but get noisey later, previously unreleased 3) (3:36) also prev. unreleased - old school looped vocal layer, disturbing synth tones, grows dense and loud, Throbbing Gristle comes to mind 4) (9:06) backing tracks that appear on Will LP, rhythmic synth tones, like what influenced Skinny Puppy, early Cab Voltaire comes to mind, gets dense toward end, careful theres an area of relative quiet, false ending sorta, come back synth, noise 5)* (4:41) slow start, thus begins a track to one of their most recognizable beautiful hypnotic over the top noise pieces ever, a masterpiece 6) (5:14) begins very quiet, fades in, sparse distant noisy elements, with rhythmic casio type drum beat, quite disturbing, very Esplendor 7)* (2:52) a snippet of another one of their most recognizable pieces, a pulsing dark evil looped hypnotic darkness, beautiful, only complaint is it ends so quickly with a loooooong fade
