Two THX-scale drone compositions, one each by Kyle Bobby Dunn of Montreal and Wayne Robert Thomas of Indianapolis. I think of gigantic places when listening to this: a desert plain, a symphony hall, outer space. Vertigo inducing. RIYL Stars of the Lid, A Winged Victory for the Sullen, Eluvium, Foucault dropping acid in Death Valley with classical music cranked to full blast (that actually happened). Both are great, so just choose which one sounds more appealing to you. No words, no FCCs.|
1. (20:12)—Bright, majestic, and dense, like a recording of an orchestra tuning to G in an indoor swimming hall. A repeated motif inspired by revisionist Western films.
2. (20:00)—A little more low-key and varied in dynamics than Dunn’s piece, but similarly reverberant and imposing. Not exactly melancholy, but somewhat shadowy and chill-inducing.
