Ambient/drone. Solo record by Jon Porras, who is also a member of Barn Owl, Elm. Formerly based in SF, he's now in New York. He has previously released records on Thrill Jockey, Root Strata, and Geographic North. This is a beautiful record perfect for late night blissout radio. All tracks fade into each other.

From the one-sheet:
His focus has now shifted from guitar to synthesizer, narrowing in on the intersections between sound and neurology. Taking the Yamaha DX7 as his main instrument for this solo work, Porras read and incorporated John Chowning’s frequency modulation synthesis, the result being a nuanced and multidimensional sound with endless possibilties. Porras stacked, arranged and adjusted these sounds through digital synthesis and effects. “The process felt like mixing paint to get the right color and texture, then laying down a brushstroke, each day returning to the canvas to build on something I left there from the day before,” says Porras. Voices Of The Air broadcasts these intricate balances of sounds that slowly set together, creating an album of delicacy and power.

4. (4:23) * Peach Fire—Frantic synth pulses over ambient drone, sounds Tim Hecker.
5. (3:15) Winter Bloom—Frosty drone with insistent synth motif
6. (4:31) ** Cold Spring—Slow ethereal ambient liturgy
7. (7:08) * Hymn to Light—Picks up where the last stopped but on higher tone, builds into intense wall of noise
