Review: On this album, sax player Sewelson’s unorthodox phrasing, extended techniques and reverse-engineering processes standout as a major source of interest, while leading this all-star quartet that features longtime collaborator, bassist/composer, William Parker. These semi-structured pieces are complex, dynamic, cunning and brimming with fierce and stoutly presented improvisational encounters.

Track Review (favorites denoted by *):
*1/ Music For A Free World (10:03) – baritone sax starts> midtempo jam> interplay between sax & trombone like two elephants attempting to sing together> bowed bass solo> trombone solo soars wild> sax solo> uptempo jam> quick stop
2/ Tensiana (21:10) – bass starts uptempo then slows> swings into dissonant uptempo jam, then slows to midtempo jam> trombone/drum duet> drum/bass duet> wild sax solo> bass/drum duet> bass solo> trombone solo> midtempo jam> uptempo jam slows then builds to uptempo>quick stop
*3/ TB (3:11) - sax starts> midtempo jam, like the sax & trombone are holding a conversation> quick stop
4/ Well (4:07) – trombone starts> discordant midtempo jam slows> trombone & sax trade riffs> builds to midtempo jam> fade
**5/ Calm Pose (5:45) – full band starts> swinging off-kilter dissonant jam> trombone solo> uptempo jam slows to midtempo> fade
6/ Bill (7:45) – sax starts> slow disonnant jam with sax up front> sax solo> slow jam> bowed bass solo to stop
