Stripped down “karaoke” renditions of radio singles ranging from Peter Andre’s "Mysterious Girl" to The Carpenter’s “Rainy Days and Mondays.” Lo-fi bedroom pop with a forlorn outsider aesthetic. Minimal—most tracks are just vocals and a keyboard. Lonely and bleak but interesting. As lead singer Saul Adamczewski aptly puts it “this album should only be listened to poolside whilst weeping into a shandy.” RIYL: Magnetic Fields, John Maus, Stephen Malkmus, Daniel Johnston FCC: track 2 TRY: 10, 5, 6, 2
1. Somber, rainy mood
*2. (FCC) Groovy preset Yamaha drumbeat with a doo wop feel. Nostalgic love song with vintage high school prom vibes. Six seconds before the song ends he yells “fuck!” and coughs loudly. (As a side note to all you music reviewers, here’s the answer to your hypothetical question…)
3. Upbeat drum machine with simple keyboard elements. Strained crooning
4. Plodding keyboard with goofy horns/kazoos. Deliberately out of tune (?)
*5. 80’s new wave elements with deep vocals and a loose wandering feel (Springsteen cover)
*6. Spiraling keyboard arpeggios with echoed vocals. Sultry, mysterious mood
7. Abner Jay cover describing life in the South during the Great Depression. Nice vocal delivery
8. Slow breakup song with extended keyboard chords
9. Acoustic guitar love ballad
*10. Lo-fi reggae version of the Van Morrison classic. Slow-circling and hypnotic
