Subtle and low-lit drone from John Daniel of Chicago. This album is a tribute to the tucked away apartment complex in Cleveland where Daniel grew up, and the surrounding vegetation he explored as a child. There’s a palpable sense of mystery and isolation, not dramatized as spooky, but a little unsettled and ruminative and aware of the unknown in the familiar. Similar in feel to Adam Pacione’s Sisyphus, one of my favorite albums of all time (and in the KZSU library). Nice for cloudy afternoons or solitary warm nights. Also RIYL The Caretaker, Celer, Kyle Bobby Dunn, Sister Grotto, Greg Gorlen. Favorites: 1, 3, 4. No FCCs.

1. *(6:10)—Cloudy gray tape loops, soft shuddering sounds. Dense but soft.
2. (4:46)—A little noisier, with a softly grinding tape sound.
3. *(8:17)—Dark, eerie, with distant cavernous sounds, something like leaves rattling.
4. *(5:30)—Deep, warm, peaceful, amniotic, with sounds of flowing water.
5. (15:07)—High muted sparkles, long tail into silence before the loop repeats. Heavily manipulated piano?
