JONATHAN MCREYNOLDS/Make Room/Urban Inspirational Make Room is Jonathan McReynold's third release, and was recorded LIVE in his hometown of Chicago. His signature "real" style of singing, ad-libbing and writing shines. McReynolds is one of the better neo-soul artists out today and his voice alone could be considered another instrument and he shows his mastery of vocal gymnastics. Styles: R&B, NEO-SOUL, jazz, lots of acoustic sounds. NO FCCs. Fave tracks: 3, 4, 9, 10. Reviewer: Daniel of LJH. *1. 3:12 - Slow tempo. Acoustic guitar and a hand-drum carry the melody. Joined at times by jazzy drums and possibly a piano buried in the mix. *2. 9:00 - Slow/med tempo. Acoustic guitars, piano, drums, purely organic. **3. 6:16 - Slow tempo. Acoustic guitars, light drums. That's it. *4. 3:03 - Slow tempo. More of a continuation of song 3 (Cycles). Piano, acoustic guitars, jazz drums. *5. 3:36 - Slow tempo. Acoustic guitars carry this song entirely. *6. 3:26 - Medium tempo. Electric guitar, drums, bass guitar. Piano. A funk that reaches back to Motown develops as the song progresses. Joined by the HamilTones it is reminiscent of the sound that propelled the Jackson 5 to stardom. *7. 3:57 - Slow/med tempo. Acoustic guitars, violins, drums, piano. *8. 6:17 - Slow tempo. Continuation of "Better." **9. 6:49 - Med tempo. Drums, acoustic guitars, piano. **10. 5:40 - Slow tempo. Piano, acoustic guitars, drums. *11. 3:22 - Slow tempo. Acoustic guitars, bass guitar, piano and drums. |
