NO FCC's (all instrumenta1) Favorite tracks: 1, 3, 5, 8, 9, 10, Guo Gan plays Liu Ttian Hua's compositions for the erhu – a two-stringed violin of Central Asian origins – with a confidence and mastery that makes these simple-sounding but quite intricate melodies a delight to listen to; hard to believe all this music comes from two strings No FCC's (all instrumental) ; Favorite tracks 1, 3, 5, 8, 9, 10 *1 –Recitation of Leisure – exquisitely limpid and lovely -- 6:21 2-– Song of Lament – 2:50 – like a tear falling in slow motion *3 –Towards Brightness – 4:23 – skips around with a delightful lightness that segues to tremolo 4—Moon Night –5:06 – played with great delicacy and expression *5 – Bird Song in a Desolate Mountain –4:04— halting and then liltingly fast; amazingly bird-like 6-- Beautiful Evening –3:18—limpid and sweet 7 --Recitation of ill-being – 5:34-- slow and a little melancholy *8—Etude on a single string –7:13-- meltingly legato *9—song of melancholy –6:38-- pacing varies as tune climbs up and down in a series of intervals *10—shadows of candles, flickering red –4:14—very skippy, and flickery, and dancey in an ethereal sort of way |
