Mr. Bones Reviewed 2019-08-08 | ||
Ear Worms - Duke Robilard (as told by Mr. Bones) In Ear Worms, Room Full of Blues founder Duke Robillard presents unique covers of semi-obscure songs that have stuck with him from his youth. Not a fan of covers, give it a try anyway if you want to treat your listeners to some infectious '50s and early ‘60s era rock, pop & jazz that they probably have never heard before. Robillard is backed by a crack band and he uses several vocalists to keep things fresh. Especially delightful is Julie Grant's redo her '60s hit Everyday I Have to Cry Some (track #5). RIYL: Dave Edmunds, Robert Gordon, Link Wray *1 Uptempo blistering rockabilly ala The Blasters (D. Robillard, 3:35) **2 Down-tempo, delicious soulful sound with nice horns & guitar (Goffin & King, 5:38) *3 Slow & bluesy with nice violin (P. St. John 4:54) *4 Bouncy instrumental (Traditional, 3:47) **5 Divine toe tapper with Julie Grant on vocals (A. Alexander, 2:35) **6 Spooky song about an evil man with powerful bass (B. Dylan, 3:32) *7 Pure R&B, even better than the Brenda Lee original (R. Self, 2:25) 8 Etherial instrumental (B. Carson & T. Moon, 3:39) 9 Uptempo Chuck Berry song that you’ve never (C. Berry, 2:13) 10 Funky rendition of a Toussaint classic (A. Toussaint 6:33) 11 Mid-tempo, haunting rendition with a rhumba feel (Neville Bros, 4:44) 12 Twangy full tilt boogie on this Link Wray instrumental (Wray & Grant, 2:13) 13 Slow instrumental with jazzy guitar (C. Price & R. Stewart, 4:51) * Mr. Bones especially likes these |
