Heavy: mixing drones and feedback loops with soul crushing doom, this trio’s newest release fits in perfectly with Thrill Jockey’s amazing roster of late that also includes The Body, Sumac, Wrekmeister Harmonies. Recorded in Albini’s Chicago studio, where everything that leaves the control room leaves possessed, annointed (refer to Breeders “Pod”, Nirvana’s “in utero”, Big Black, Shellac, Trans Am….). 1) (9:29) huge slow crushing doom out the gate, picks up a bit but returns to the death march 2) (10:08) begins with quiet guitar, atmospheric, after 2:30 the crush ensues with vocal vengeance, making up for the lost 2.5 min. 3) (3:59) a beautiful feedback drone 4) (4:57) almost post metal emo feel to this one, more accessible and rockin than others 5) (10:27) starts slow and sparse but epic moods and soul crushing ensues as one would expect, slow crush at end.
