Debut full-length from Australian singer/songwriter Hatchie. Ten songs of beautiful dreampop sprinkled with shoegaze elements. An excellent follow-up to her 2018 EP “Sugar & Spice.” I could definitely see her gaining lots of traction in the next few years. Fits in well with contemporaries Hazel English, Japanese Breakfast, and Alvvays, as well as established greats like The Cranberries, Cocteau Twins, and Lush. All tracks FCC Clean. Start with 2, 10, 6, 4
(1.) (3:50) Post-punk/new wavey with a dark skittering beat. Reminds me of Pale Waves in the best way (*2.) (4:58) Anthemic and breathy with clangy percussion and iridescent synths and guitars. One of the poppiest of the bunch (3.) (3:55) Classic 90s dreampop sound. Reminds me a lot of the Cranberries. Silky and tantalizing (*4.) (5:13) Bouncy synthy love song with a simple drum machine beat and soaring vocal melodies (5.) (4:56) Dramatic and bold with steady percussion, shimmering shoegazey guitar, and a catchy chorus (*6.) (4:04) Smooth love song. Starts slow and gradually gets more epic (7.) (4:11) Dreamy with soft-washed vocals, gentle piano and jangly guitars (8.) (4:55) Yearning vocals with a pulsing synthy beat and guitar washes (9.) (4:33) Jangly and lovely with dense tinkly percussion, strummy acoustic guitar and gorgeous vocals (*10.) (4:37) Skippy beat, poppy, with shoegazey guitar droning. Slow atmospheric outro for the last minute and a half
