Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2019-10-01
Two tracks by new group composed of old stalwarts from bands like Fu Manchu: first one old school rockin psych stoney in the spirit of Pink Floyd, Bevis Frond. Almost “ironic” with the heavy guitar jams, blatant mellotron and synth and Pink Floyd’y vocals singing “where do I come from?” etc. Great stuff for sure. Fans of Carlton Melton do not miss. Second track shifts from the 70’s squarely into early 90’s post Cobain Seattle. I imagine they camp it up for their performances, at least I hope so, as these guys bring on the rock Radio safe.

1)* (20:12) begins with chant poem, like a pagan druid prayer, then launches into good fuzzy head nodding stoner psych theme/jam, guitar jammy heavy, mellotron “strings” appear about 6 min in and it mellows “ride the wind”, starting to remind me of tripping on acid in the 70’s now, the box scale blues leads are almost too much, like “I remember my first les paul and 0.09s”, the jam is faded out and the track exits with a redux of the intro, with “angelic” synth/voice 2) (5:17) big hard rock feel with some hard to stomach (for me) vocals that smack of Seattle style “grunge” to me (not Nirvana, mind you, the others)
