Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend

Big “desert” sound with female vocs, twang guitars, dark themes and drama. Vocs remind of Nico, Siouxsie, Ana Calvi, and the music could pass for the latter as well. See also the later works by Earth, Nico Case Tucson recordings. Portland six piece–two guitars, pedal steel, tenor saxophone, bass, and “a big drum”. The overall feel is familiar (aforementioned) but the sax and lack of full drum kit really makes this stand unique in that realm. Beautiful stuff, how I love thee. All tracks great. Feeding Tube Records never disappoints.

1) (5:00) big twangy vibrato guitar and drone, slide guitar lends western flare, after about 2 min a big tribal pensive beat and tone appear, joined shortly by fuzzy vocs 2)* (6:24) pedal steel sets theme, slower dark drama and sax appears later. 3) (4:33) cool sway this 4) (6:01) I assume the snare sound is a rim shot on the big drum? This has a great dark slow plod to it 5) (6:50) melodic guitar hook, dark 6) (6:17) slow mindful, this sounds like more than just a big drum, there’s a slow ride cymbal beat here.
