Absolutely superb psychedelic folk-rock from Tel Aviv. This music oozes vibes with substance; play this on a sunny day and become the coolest version of yourself. An immaculate amalgam of 60s–70s música popular brasileira and Japanese folk-rock, 1990s Chicago avant pop, and 2010s indie-pop summer jams. The band plays relaxed but tight, and Rodan delivers some great surrealistic lyrics, all in Hebrew. (The album title transliterates as "tsleyn" and translates as "Pilgrim.") RIYL Caetano Veloso, Clube da Esquina, Happy End, Chris Cohen, Cass McCombs, Jim O'Rourke's song records, early Kevin Morby. Favorites: 1, 2, 4, 5, 7. No FCCs. 1. *(2:24)—(Song title translates as "Not Hard to See.") Minimal, medium-slow rhythm. Gentle guitar, echoing keyboard effects. 2. *(3:14)—(Tr. "Lake.") Slow. Staccato keyboards, snakelike bass, really nice string flourishes. 3. (2:07)—(Tr. "Doe.") Very slow, with woozy keyboards. 4. *(2:40)—(Tr. "Same.") Slow, wistful. Groovy tambourine-driven choruses. 5. (2:54)—(Tr. "I Was Baptized Twice.") Slow, pleasant, dreamy and relaxing. 6. (2:22)—(Tr. "Asia Minor.") Medium-fast guitar fingerpicking. 7. *(4:00)–(Tr. "Loop.") Slow and seventies-epic, with thick synth strings. 8. (3:31)—(Tr. "Pilgrim.") Mid-tempo, moody. Acoustic guitar strumming, minimal percussion. 9. (3:15)—(Tr. "Who It's Coming From.") Mid-tempo. Soft and pleasant, with simple drum machine. | ||
