The latest LP from legendary Scottish post-rockers. 11 beautiful tracks (all instrumentals except #4) of early-COVID-era slow-drifting prog-rock. Recorded/produced both in person and remotely. Most songs are slow burners that gradually build and bloom with intensity.
FCC: None
RIYL: Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Do Make Say Think, Explosions in the Sky
TRY: 1, 2, 4, 6, 7
(1.) (5:09) Spoken word intro leads into haunting piano and gauzy guitars. Slowly builds to a thundering apex
(2.) (4:45) 8-bit groove intro with indecipherable vocorder vocals and steady guitar
(3.) (5:10) Lush and ghostly
(4.) (4:12) Fuzzed-out rocker with somber lyrics and twinkly keyboard. Moving tribute to David Berman (Silver Jews) and Scott Hutchison (Frightened Rabbit)
(5.) (7:14) Bleary, churning post-rock
(6.) (5:53) Slow churning, with indecipherable vocorder vocals. The song title contains an FCC but this is an instrumental
(7.) (3:58) Gripping rocker with muddy powerchords and crashing percussion. 90’s as hell with a bit of a Smashing Pumpkins thing going on
(8.) (6:08) Staccato percussion, smeared ambient synthesizer. Crazy crescendo at the end
(9.) (6:55) Bleak post-rock, in the vein of Explosions in the Sky
(10.) (4:36) Skippy percussion with prominent guitars and vocal samples
(11.) (7:23) Lonely slow-building outro
