Monolithic maximalist drone, the project of Providence-based artist M. Azevedo. When Azevedo was asked to do acoustical consulting on a massive 160-year-old organ, they used the organ as a sound source for this record, pairing it with synthesizer. These pieces are crushingly dense at high volumes but almost calming in their very gradual shifts. Good for pondering the void and making heavy machinery tremble. RIYL Sunn O))), "Earth 2: Special Low Frequency Version," Pauline Oliveros and her Deep Listening practice (Azevedo studied with Oliveros), Kali Malone with truck-size subwoofers. Favorites: 2 (for a shorter piece), 4 (longer). No words, no FCCs.

1. (12:17)—Dense, very slowly changing drone. Some fizzing and grinding, thick low-end.
2. *(6:39)—Weirdly soothing, slightly shuddering. The drone has a breath-like rhythm.
3. (21:10)—Minimal synth bleeps and clicks, floor-rattling bass drone. Noisier textures enter but it doesn't get harsh.
4. *(33:09)—Speaker-testing bass to start. The sound expands to slightly higher frequencies but a USGS advisory remains against cranking this too close to the Hayward Fault. 1,000% more bass than anything else in the a-file or your money back. Church organ and soft occasional feedback enter about 18 minutes in, majestic and imposing.
